All-Steinway School Initiative – $950,000

Brenau students have the opportunity to study with the finest music faculty and enjoy professional-grade performance venues. Likewise, we aspire to join the ranks of “All-Steinway Schools” – a designation, held by only 150 institutions in the world, awarded by the Steinway Corporation as an international mark of music excellence. Through the All-Steinway School Initiative, we will replace dozens of well-worn instruments with 30 Steinway pianos that are designed to accommodate heavy playing while maintaining a high level of instrumental excellence.

Yuxi Liu plays the pianos during the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society Induction ceremony on Thursday, March 14, 2013.A Steinway provides a signature sound that enables students to hear with crystal clarity the notes and chords they play. The great depth, higher registers and robust harmonies encourage student musicians to become performers at the highest echelons of the professional world and to teach with precision those who will be performers. The construction is designed to accommodate heavy playing while maintaining a level of instrumental excellence that will give students the opportunity to hear, emulate and prepare to perform at the highest levels in the professional world.

The $950,000 initiative seeks to raise funds to purchase thirty concert, studio and practice pianos for the entire campus. The initial efforts in this regard will focus on studio pianos and a concert piano for the John S. Burd Center for the Performing Arts, which hosts many of the university’s musical theater events.
